Titre : Polen: une approche SW/HW pour la confidentialité des programmes et des données.

Résumé : D’aucuns voudraient connecter un nombre grandissant d’objets, entre eux, mais aussi au réseau internet, pour permettre la collecte d’un nombre toujours plus grand d’informations et réaliser ainsi l’augmentation de nos vies jusque-là visiblement sous-dimensionnées. Mais connecter des objets, y stocker des informations personnelles, tout en les rendant accessibles facilement au reste du monde ouvre la voie à toute une série d’usages dangereux pour nos données et nous-mêmes.

Les approches de protection matérielles traditionnellement utilisées (eg pour la carte à puce) sont certes très efficaces, mais elles sont également très coûteuses en développement, en certification, et en déploiement. Au CEA, nous étudions comment des approches logicielles peuvent venir en complément de ces approches matérielles pour augmenter le niveau de confiance placé dans l’objet tout en limitant les coûts et en flexibilisant l’application des protections.

Dans cet exposé, je présenterai un cas particulier d’approche mêlant contre-mesures matérielles et logicielles, que nous développons actuellement. Il sera question d’attaques par canaux cachés, de reverse-engineering (un peu) de compilation dynamique, de chiffrement de code (plus), de pompe à insuline et de lampes connectées aussi, et de fin du monde peut-être.

Bio : Après une thèse sur les langages de programmation dédiés aux systèmes critiques, soutenue à Verimag en 2005 et quelques voyages scientifico-culturels en Bretagne et Finlande, Lionel Morel a intégré l’INSA Lyon en 2007 et le CITI en 2009. Il y a mené des travaux de recherche entre autres sur la programmation et l’évaluation de performances de machines parallèles, tout en enseignant les systèmes d’exploitations, l’architecture des ordinateurs et la compilation. Depuis 2017, il est détaché auprès du CEA, à Grenoble, où il travaille sur l’usage de la compilation pour la sécurité.

Aujourd’hui beaucoup de décisions prises dans la vie quotidienne sont
influencées par des informations provenant d’Internet; la gigantesque
masse de données associée ne sont cependant perçus qu’à travers le
prisme des algorithmes. En effet, qu’il s’agisse de résultats de
recherche sur le web ou d’itinéraires, nous avons tendance à ne pas
remettre en cause le résultat de ces algorithmes, malgré l’absence
d’information sur leur fonctionnement.

Ces algorithmes sont alimentés par une grande quantité d’information
incluant bien souvent des données à caractère personnel collectées avec
ou sans le consentement de l’Internaute. Le manque de transparence de
ces algorithmes et des informations qu’ils manipulent associés à leur
usage toujours plus innovant suscitent de nombreuses préoccupations de
la part du public. Leur introspection et la question de la conformité de
leur exécution face à l’éthique sont devenues des enjeux de société
majeurs. Plus généralement, cet atelier explorera les outils permettant
aux individus de questionner et comprendre les services qu’ils utilisent.

Cet atelier a pour vocation de constituer une communauté hautement
pluridisciplinaire et transversale autour de la transparence et de
l’opacité des systèmes d’information. Cette manifestation inclura des
présentations de conférenciers invités ainsi que l’animation d’une table
ronde sur le domaine.

PhD Day 2017 @ CITI-Lab

During this day, PhD students from all the teams of CITI Lab will present their latest research results via a series of presentations, demos and poster sessions. This seminar entitled “European projects and strategy” will be presented by Marie-Cécile Barras, in charge of European projects at Insavalor, and by Florent de Dinechin for Socrate, Frédéric Le Mouel for Dynamid, Hervé Rivano for Urbanet, Mathieu Cunche for Privatics, and Olivier Simonin for Chroma.

Abstract

A special CITI seminar on the European projects/strategy will take on a slightly different format from the usual ones.

On the one hand, Marie-Cécile will present an overview of the current/future European calls, the networking meetings, the support tools set up by INSAVALOR, etc.

On the other hand, each CITI team will present its scientific challenges and European strategy/partners.

This year’s CITI lab PhD. Day will be held on the 9th of June 2016, from 1 to 7 o’clock.

The first and second year PhD. candidates will present posters describing their work, while the third (and beyond) students will be giving presentations (10 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of Q&A). The posters, as well as the presentations, will be in English.

The poster sessions and the demos will be held in Hall Chappe, during the breaks, and the presentations will take place in Amphi Chappe.
